Kapsabet Engineering Mentorship 2023

The IEK (NorthRift Branch) on 9th September undertook a High School Mentorship dubbed ‘Moulding Future Engineers’ at the Historic Kapsabet Boys High School, A Great Academic Powerhouse, To Answer Excellent Questions From Brilliant Students Surrounding the Engineering Field. The school is a center of excellence in STEM, and has a vision to be ‘The Top School in Kenya’.

Its reputation of sponsoring many of its best performers to pursue engineering is no secret. Its values- Industry, Integrity and Service is at the core of its indomitable influence. The 30-plus engineers took the students through the various disciplines of engineering as a course, industry opportunities available both locally and abroad, and encouraged them to select the pursuit of engineering at their tertiary level. The learners were also challenged to embrace the STEM subjects as a pathway to promoting, encouraging, and improving the application of engineering and other related practices.

The close to 2,180 students engaged the engineers with a series of questions in the areas of manufacturing, power generation, petroleum mining, textile engineering, IOT, Chemical processing among other subjects to complete an excellent afternoon.

During the session, the Chief Principal Mr. Kipchumba Maiyo appreciated the effort made by IEK to engage the learners at the High School level where the actual decision to undertake engineering is actually made.
The Deputy Principal, Administration Mr. Ronald Mwaniki and the Careers Master, Mr. Songok Philip rallied the students to uphold their distinctive educational status and keep shining as is their reputation.

Engineers from across the disciplines had an opportunity to engage 2200 students on various opportunities, most importantly, Why take Engineering?
Students had an opportunity to ask critical questions, among them Kenya’s energy challenges, textile and apparel quality and Engineering courses accreditation by Engineers Board of Kenya.

While the students work hard in their classrooms, The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is committed to ensure continuous mentorships with the hope of influencing many to take up engineering.
